Pacquiao fails to retain world title; Ugas claims biggest victory

YORDENIS Ugas claimed victory against Manny Pacquiao in a 12-round unanimous decision to retain the WBA welterweight championship on Saturday (Sunday Philippine time) at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Filipino boxing icon was the more aggressive fighter throughout the fight, but it was not enough against the taller and younger Cuban former Olympian.

Fighting for the first time in more than two years, the Filipino icon failed to reclaim the World Boxing Association super welterweight belt and could not solve the puzzle the Cuban posed as Ugas earned the nod of the judges, 115-113, 116-112, 116-112.

Cuba’s  Ugás claimed the biggest victory of his boxing career as he outpointed Filipino ring icon Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao in their welterweight showdown, Saturday at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Ugás, who took the fight on 11 days’ notice after Errol Spence Jr. had to withdraw due to injury, retained the WBA “super” welterweight title.
